Meritocracy: the belief that anyone can succeed based on hard work and effort alone. The basis of what Singapore stands for and what contributes to our own country's success. The idea that anyone achieve great things regardless of their race, language, religion or socio-economic background. The idea of meritocracy, however, does not come without its pitfalls.
